Housed in the foundation is the private collection of Ebrahim Alkazi\, known as the Alkazi Collection of Photography\, which comprises works in the form of photographic albums\, single prints\, paper negatives and glass-plate negatives\, painted photographs\, and photo postcards. The collection is particularly strong in areas such as archaeology\, architectural history\, the urban development of colonial cities\, military studies\, anthropological studies and topography. \nKiran Nadar Museum of Art\nEstablished at the initiative of the avid art collector Kiran Nadar\, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) opened its doors to the public in January 2010 as the first private museum of art exhibiting modern and contemporary works from India and the sub-continent. Located in the heart of New Delhi\, India’s capital city\, KNMA is a non-commercial/not-for-profit organization that intends to exemplify the dynamic relationship between art and culture through its exhibitions\, publications\, educational and public programs. \nIndia Art Fair\nTaking place annually in India’s capital\, New Delhi\, the India Art Fair celebrates modern-day South Asia\, combining cutting-edge contemporary visual art with modern masters and vernacular artistic traditions. Positioning art and the artist’s voice at its core\, the fair’s programme draws together galleries and institutions\, private foundations and arts charities\, artists’ collectives and national museums\, cultural events and festivals\, enabling local and international audiences to engage in innovative ways with the cultural history and development of the region. In addition\, the fair is committed to supporting arts education and professional development opportunities and aims to increase audiences for the arts within India. India Art Fair is owned by Angus Montgomery Arts\, a division of Angus Montgomery Ltd. \nGuimet National Museum of Asian Arts\nPresenting 5\,000 years of Asian art\, the Musée Guimet is the largest European museum devoted to Asian art. Its collections are of unparalleled richness and diversity outside of Asia. From the Buddhas of Afghanistan to the Zen monks of Japan\, from Indian fabrics to Samurai armor\, and from Khmer treasures to Chinese fine art\, the Musée Guimet presents all the civilizations of the Asian continent. \nLes amis de Marc Riboud\nThe association Les amis de Marc Riboud was created in 2002 in order to expand the public’s awareness of the photographs by Marc Riboud. It relies on its members to encourage exhibitions\, books\, films and all projects that could help reach this goal. \nAfter Marc Riboud’s archives have been donated to the National Asian arts Museum – Guimet in Paris\, the association is hosted there to prepare exhibitions\, books and all projects keeping his legacy alive. \nMusée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac\nSimultaneously a museum\, a cultural centre\, and a place for research and teaching\, the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac was born from the political desire to highlight non-European cultures\, in the heart of Paris. Located on the banks of the River Seine\, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower\, the collection housed by the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac is extremely diverse\, both in terms of its regions (Africa\, Asia\, Oceania\, Americas) and its contents (photographs\, textiles\, sculptures\, masks\, etc.). The museum gathers a collection of 370 000 objects\, a considerable collection of graphic art and a collection composed of more than 710 000 ancient and contemporary photographic pieces. The photography collection covers the whole geographic area represented by the museum\, as well as the entire historical field of the medium\, from 1842 to today. \nMusée Nicéphore Niépce\, Ville de Chalon-sur-Saône\nLocated in Chalon-sur-Saône\, the ambition of the musée Nicéphore Niépce is to explain the basics of photography from its invention by Niépce up to today’s digital imagery. Its collections bring together almost three million photographs and objects that provide the possibility of a constantly renewed experience visit after visit. The use of interactive terminals and increasingly sophisticated technology provides a deeper understanding of the photographic world. \nThe museum is planned as an initiation to the broad principles of photography. Professional prints are displayed side by side with amateur efforts. The illustrated press has an important place as an essential support to the worldwide spread of the medium. \nMusée Goupil - Ville de Bordeaux\nCreated in 1991 by the Town of Bordeaux\, the Goupil Museum is dedicated to the image\, its techniques and its uses in the 19th century. It contains the collections of the House of Goupil\, a dynasty of art publishers and international gallery owners based in Paris who were active from 1827 to 1920. \nThe Goupil collections consist of 70\,000 photographs\, 46\,000 stamps\, 7\,200 matrices (engraved coppers\, stone lithographs\, typogravure and chromotypogravure blocks\, glass negatives) and one thousand books and illustrated reviews. \nMaison Européenne de la Photographie\nSince opening in 1996\, the MEP remains the primary French institution dedicated to photography in all its forms. Our exhibition programme includes both internationally recognised and emerging photographers and filmmakers\, highlighting the diversity of artistic approaches to contemporary lens-based practices. Including a world-class collection of photographic prints and artists’ films from the post-war period and one of the largest specialised research libraries in Europe\, the MEP is without equal in Paris. \nFor French language teachers: organize an outing for your students\n\nStep out of the classroom: A pedagogical kit (in French) to explore Convergence exhibition\n\nDownload the pedagogical kitOrganized with the collaboration of:Title Image: Bernard Pierre Wolff\, Chiites\, Festival du Muharram\, Lucknow\, Inde\, 1975 © Collection Maison Européenne de la Photographie\, Paris

SUMMARY:French Live
DESCRIPTION:Debashish PaulDebashish is a 1994-born sculptor and performance artist who explores queer identity and the societal norms surrounding it. He studied at the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship and later pursued a master’s degree from Banaras Hindu University. He uses sculptural dresses to reveal his emotions and desires. His work has been recognized in several exhibitions and has won various awards\, including the Allegro Main Prize and lnlaks Fine Art Award. His work is showcased as part of the Artist-in-Residence program at the India Art Fair 2023. \nME WITH MY PETPerformance“Metaphorically a pet or imaginary friend is my memory whom I am always carrying with me. In my lonely fantastic world\, I am continually having conversations with them. In a way\, pets are my other internal self. This idea arises from the distance that is created in personal relationships. In this work\, I want to understand how someone’s memories internally create a form and love it like a pet\, and a new story of life is created. \nIn this project\, the sculptural dresses as well as freestanding sculptures represent my internal body and various imagined non-human forms. The dresses were made in Varanasi and the first durational live performance was executed in Khanta village in Sonbhadra district\, and Jargo village near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh\, India.” \nFIRE IN THE BELLYLaunch of the PosterzineFeaturing 8 trailblazing women artists and creative powerhouses – Anikesa Dhing\, Aqui Thami\, Aravani Art Project\, Dhruvi Acharya\, Meena Kandasamy\, Rithika Pandey\, Shilpa Gupta\, and Zeenat Kulavoor – this posterzine is a call to action\, a celebration of female strength\, and an invitation to join the movement for equality. \nEach poster is a unique expression of the artist’s vision\, a tearable and pastable piece of art that can be used in small  acts of celebration and protest. From enormous issues of sexuality\, class\, caste and ecology to innermost pains and pleasures\, these I posters explore the complexities of the world\, and invite you to engage in the power of DIY and surprise yourself with your own inner fire. \nFRANCE EU GENDER CHAMPIONThe choice of such programming is also deeply linked to our vision of art as an inclusive creative practice which should provide everyone with the opportunity to express themselves on subjects such as gender\, empowerment\, and many others. \nThe Embassy of France in India and the French Institute in India\, along with the network of Alliances Françaises in India\, are committed to promoting equality and inclusivity through all their programs. 2023 marks the year of “France EU Gender Champion” and we will be organizing\, along with our partners\, a series of events promoting leading voices in the field of gender equality. It is one of the densest networks in the world;\n67\,646 new titles and new editions published;\nLiterature\, as well as comics (including Manga) and children’s books are the driving forces of the market\, even if all sectors are performing very well;\nNearly 10\,000 publishing structures in France;\nAfter two historically strong years\, digital book sales are down by 4% vs. 2021\, but up by 11% compared to 2019;\nOverall digital book sales in publishing are lower than in other markets\, mainly because it is so easy to buy a printed copy;\nStrong evolution of the “audio” market with the emergence of platforms in France;\n20% of films released in France are book adaptations;\nFrance is a very “open” market (more than 18% of new releases are books translated from a foreign language);\nFrench is the second most-translated language in the world after English (17\,000 titles translated in 2021)\n\nCelebrating 50 years of NDWBF!\nThe 31st edition of New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF)\, held for the past 50 years\, is a major calendar event in the publishing world. NDWBF 2023 is scheduled from 25 February to 5 March 2023 in newly constructed Halls 2-5 GF at the centrally located Pragati Maidan\, New Delhi. The Fair is organized by National Book Trust\, India\, an autonomous organization of the Government of India under the Ministry of Education in collaboration with India Trade Promotion Organization. Today\, Indian publishing stands poised at significant crossroads towards the path of growth. NDWBF offers the exhibitors a unique opportunity for business with this growing book industry. It is also an ideal venue for promoting titles\, co-publication arrangements and trade. Besides the many literary and publishing conferences and programmes that are organized during the Fair\, it also opens up a gateway to the publishing and intellectual world of South Asia. The Fair attracts participation from major publishing houses across the globe. In 2021\, the Fair was organized virtually and the platform had more than 2.8 million hits\, visitors from 70 countries across the world\, 150 Indian Exhibitors and about 15 Foreign Exhibitors.

SUMMARY:An evening with Annie Ernaux
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of literary conversation led by author Nilanjana Roy\, where you will be able to gain insights into the work and life of one of the greatest living authors. A dedicated time will be secured for questions from the audience\, including journalists. A book signing session will follow the event. \nConsidered by many to be France’s most important writer\, Annie Ernaux was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 2022 for her life’s work.\nAnnie Ernaux is the author of twenty books with Éditions Gallimard\, including La Place/A Man’s Place (Prix Renaudot 1984)\, Passion simple/Simple Passion (1991)\, L’Événement/Happening (2000\, made into film by Audrey Diwan in 2021)\, Les Années/The Years (2008\, nominated for the Man Booker International Prize 2019) and Mémoire de fille/A Girl’s Story (2016). Her books have been gathered in a collection entitled Écrire la vie (2011). \nHer writing\, heavily influenced by autobiography\, has strong connections to sociology. “Ernaux’s work is uncompromising and written in plain language\, scraped clean. And when she with great courage and clinical acuity reveals the agony of the experience of class\, describing shame\, humiliation\, jealousy or inability to see who you are\, she has achieved something admirable and enduring” says the Swedish Academy. \nStep out and enjoy this event\n\nFebruary 26 | 6PM \n\n\n\n\nLiterature \n\n\n\n\n\nShri Ram Centre for Performing Arts\, Delhi \n\n\nRSVP on Insider to attendInstructions\n\n\nAdmission is free and on a first-come\, first-served basis.\nIt is mandatory to register beforehand.\nPlease bring a digital copy of the confirmation email from the French Institute in India at the time of the event.\nThe venue and organizers reserve the right to deny entry in the case of overcapacity or any misbehavior.”\n\n\nNobel Prize lecture: Annie Ernaux\, Nobel Prize in Literature 2022

With her final exams fast approaching and her belly growing\, Anne resolves to act\, even if she has to confront shame and pain\, even if she must risk prison to do so… \nAnnie Ernaux is the author of twenty books with Éditions Gallimard\, including La Place/A Man’s Place (Prix Renaudot 1984)\, Passion simple/Simple Passion (1991)\, L’Événement/Happening (2000\, made into film by Audrey Diwan in 2021)\, Les Années/The Years (2008\, nominated for the Man Booker International Prize 2019) and Mémoire de fille/A Girl’s Story (2016). \nStep out and enjoy this event\n\nFebruary 27 | 6:30 PM \n\n\n\n\nFilm Screening | Q&A \n\n\n\n\n\nAlliance Française de Delhi \n\n\nFree Entry.
