Choreographer Mourad Merzouki and collaborators/digital artists Adrien Mondot and Claire Bardainne keep us guessing. Ultimately\, it doesn’t matter what moves what. A kind of emotional kidnapping with only one possible outcome: letting go. […] Mourad Merzouki’s hip-hop is regenerated from the imaginary connection. Sophisticated\, well-designed as usual\, it has taken on another aspect\, sometimes a velvet one\, an elastic density. As if pixels had been transplanted in the very core of dancers’ muscles to transform them into gliding mutants.” \n  \n By Herald Sun\n“ Pixel is as close as it gets to a duet of projected images and dance. SUMMARY:Urban agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Today\, India has about 30 % of people living in urban areas. The urban population is likely to increase to 50% by 2050. Such an explosion in urban population raises questions of food security and economic issues hastened by other issues such as climate change.  \nUrban agriculture is one of the sustainable tools which can help in solving this issue\, becoming the “savior of rapid urbanization”. Not very widespread in India\, research on urban agriculture has been growing steadily in France in the past ten years. It has been more and more recognized as an efficient tool for creating more resilient cities\, help fight climate change by creating cooling areas\, help retain water in soils\, create biodiversity spots within the cities and create bio-waste that can be reused as natural fertilizers. On top of all\, it is a very powerful tool to create social bonds within the inhabitants of a neighborhood. \nThere are several forms of urban agriculture. Some are geared towards producing sufficient amounts of food to feed a population in need (subsistence agriculture). Others are more geared towards creating social bonds. The other forms are hybrid\, oscillating between these two primary objectives.   \n In this series of conferences\, we wish to discuss the benefits as well as shortfalls of urban agriculture in various contexts\, keeping in mind that this practice cannot be applied in a uniformed manner across different territories. \nThis series of conference will take place in the presence of two representatives of the French Association for Urban Agriculture\, created in 2016\, that will be invited to come from France for a week-long stay: \nFlore-Anaïs Brunet is the Urban Agriculture Project Manager at the “Le Mouvement des Régies\,” a national network of 130 social inclusion and community development associations operating in underprivileged areas in France. With a background in horticulture and landscape engineering\, along with numerous study trips to Latin America and Europe\, she specializes in socially-oriented urban agriculture after working in a botanical garden and landscape design offices in Paris and Berlin.  \nShe possesses strong skills in network facilitation\, event organization\, and project support for multifunctional urban agriculture initiatives in low-income neighborhoods. She is also certified in permaculture. As the vice-president of AFAUP since 2019\, she has a national understanding of the urban agriculture sector in France and represents socially-oriented urban agriculture projects\, associations\, and inclusion organizations.   \nShe particularly enjoys forging connections at various levels\, fostering collective thinking\, and facilitating professional networks to contribute to more fertile and peaceful communities. \nMarie Fiers is an agricultural engineer specialized in microbial ecology research. She has founded a counseling and engineering bureau in urban agriculture in France and specializes in hydroponics. A member of the French Association for Urban Agriculture since its creation\, she has been a board member before becoming a full-time employee. Marie is fascinated by the interactions between two worlds that we tend to oppose rather than connect – the rural and the urban worlds. She works out of Burgundy in France and her mission is to develop evaluation tools for assessing the benefits of urban agriculture as well as create synergies with European networks of urban agriculture. \nProgramme2023\n\n\n\n\nDate\nTime\nVenue\nProgramme\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n15 October 2023\n\nDelhi\nWorkshop: Beginner’s Guide to Urban Farming Sow some seeds!\n\n\n16 October 2023\n4 pm\nDelhi\nDiscussion: Urban agriculture: a tool for more sustainable\, resilient and inclusive cities? After studying animation\, she ventured off the beaten path and sought to showcase her art for all to see by creating murals in the streets of Paris as well as in numerous countries such as Cambodia\, Vietnam\, and Belgium. \nShe also creates mappings for events and animations on immersive devices\, such as at the Atelier des Lumières in Paris. \nHer style is situated on the border between naive\, surreal\, and ironic narration\, composed of cartoonish characters that are highly colorful and nuanced. Working on large-scale curves allows her the freedom to fully express her movements while bringing her various characters to life. \nSuper Bab\, born in 1993\, he created his first graffiti at the age of 13. In the following years\, he honed his graffiti techniques and explored other avenues such as painting\, drawing\, watercolor\, printmaking\, and ceramics. \nWhile studying at the Beaux-Arts in Paris\, he learned better academic techniques and developed his drawing skills as well as his personal style. \nStarting with a conventional drawing\, he adds an abstract touch\, particularly influenced by famous surrealist paintings such as those by Miró and Picasso. He also incorporates elements from outsider art and tribal art. \nAashti Miller is an architect\, illustrator and graphic designer. She was born and raised in Mumbai\, and studied Architecture at Cornell University in Ithaca\, New York. \nShe is the sole force behind MillerInk\, an illustration and graphic design studio. She constructs her drawings in an attempt to make sense of the unexpected collision of her two seemingly disparate worlds. \nAs a result\, her aesthetic and style have evolved into detailed drawings that tread the fine line between constructed and painted\, digital and analog\, two and three dimensional. Her work is heavily inspired by and explores spaces\, places\, and faces. \nJace started out as a street painter. For years\, after starting at the age of eleven by repainting his bike in shimmering vermillion red\, he traveled around the island of La Réunion and put his name up everywhere\, influenced by the hip-hop movement and lowbrow art\, although he considers himself free from any particular influence. \nAs a street artist\, he was critical of his own work\, feeling that it was not personal or identifiable enough. So he created a partner\, a teammate who became a legend before his creator: the Gouzou.

In 1999\, the team of Les Colporteurs teamed up with that of the Les Nouveaux Nez to imagine\, in Ardèche\, what became La Cascade\, National Circus Pole of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes\, of which they are since partners. In 2000\, after a serious accident\, Antoine Rigot must abandon wire-dancing\, but resumes work as an actor\, and engages in writing and stage direction. He conceives and directs the shows of Les Colporteurs : Diabolus in Musica (2003)\, Le Fil sous la Neige (2006)\, Hautes Pointures and Tarina (2007)\, Sur la Route… (2009)\, Le Bal des Intouchables (2012) \, Le Chas du Violon (2014)\, Evohé (2015)\, Sous la toile de Jheronimus (2017) and Le retour des papillons\, an exit show for Fratellini Academy students (2017). In 2018\, following the creation\, Méandres\, shared with Agathe\, Antoine Rigot directed\, along with Alice Ronfard\, the show F(r)iction for the 30th graduating class of CNAC. In 2019\, Antoine directed with Julien Lambert the show TOYO!\, a musical and acrobatic duo for young audiences. In 2022\, Antoine Rigot and Agathe Olivier create a new show under the big top with ten circus artists and musicians \, Coeurs Sauvages\, actually on tour in France and Europe. \nThe company Les Colporteurs produces and performs these shows under its big top\, indoors and in the public space\, in France and abroad. \nThe company Les Colporteurs is supported by the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes\, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region\, Department of Ardeche and the City of Le Teil d’Ardèche. \nGilles Charles-Messance – tight-rope artist contorsionist\nIt all started for Gilles in 1977 when he walked into Annie Fratellini and Pierre Étaix’s circus. He was new to this world\, as they say. He started off being an acrobat\, then he created a circus act on a trampoline as well as a fixed trapeze act thanks to which he worked at Arlette Gruss’s circus\, then in several traditional circuses\, including Monti in Switzerland\, or Alexis Gruss. Later on\, he performed a flying trapeze act thanks to which he joined the Arts Sauts\, and a Washington trapeze act with which he began a long collaboration with the company Les Colporteurs. Gilles hates to say he works\, he’d rather say he has fun while making the audience happy. \nColine Rigot – musician\nAs the daughter of tightrope artists\, Agathe Olivier and Antoine Rigot\, Coline has always known the tricks of the trade… of contemporary Circus. During Volière Dromesko tour that Coline first walked on a rope and she started learning the violin with Hungarian Gypsy musicians of the company. Later on\, Coline alternated between learning the violin at the classical music academy\, and improvisation workshops with Carl Shlosser\, a saxophone player – jazz composer of the first show of Les Colporteurs\, Filao. Gradually she developed a poetic language combining rope and violin.\nAfter receiving the classical gold medal at the music Avignon academy and after learning jazz\, in Didier Lockwood’s class\, Coline led her life\, sometimes with circus\, including three creations with Les Colporteurs as musician or tightrope artist\, sometimes as theatre musician with FootsBar\, or even as violinist with collectives of travelling musicians\, such as Tchabadjo and Les Poissons Voyageurs. \nAbout Aaron Fernandes Entertainement\nAaron Fernandes is working as a producer on the tour of “Our Daily Performance” in India. SUMMARY:A Night of Chefs & Ideas
DESCRIPTION:Debate and dialogue are the bloodstream of open\, democratic\, robust societies. Shared ideas and diverse viewpoints can invigorate\, transform\, build bridges. Find solutions to the most intractable problems. \nCommitted to this ideal\, the Night of Ideas is a unique platform that was initiated in 2016 during an exceptional evening in Paris\, when foremost French and international thinkers were invited to come together to discuss the major issues of our time. Since then\, the Night of Ideas has grown to become a prestigious fixture on the international calendar. \nHosted across 200 cities\, 100 countries\, and 5 continents. From Paris to New York. Fiji Islands to New Zealand. Seoul to Shanghai. New Delhi to New Mexico. The Night of Ideas brings together front-line minds interconnected by a common purpose — on one day\, to celebrate the power of thought. \nThis year\, the theme is intriguingly titled More? and the Indian edition of the Night of Ideas will be focusing on the crucial\, fundamental\, and fascinating world of food in all its dimensions: the pleasure\, the politics\, people\, palates\, plurality. And the all-important questions of equity\, sustainability\, and security. \nA few facts to indicate the scale of what’s at stake: India is the second largest food producer in the world. Almost half of India’s 130 billion people\, that’s close to 700 million people\, are engaged in farming. 67% of which are women. Yet\, while they feed the country and keep us safe\, they add only 18% to the GDP\, and 76% of farmers want to give up farming. Women — the spine of all of this — own only 2% of the land. \nSo how can these inequities be corrected? Are GM crops the route? Or are organics the answer? How can we\, as consumers of food\, make the food chain more  robust? How can Indian agriculture become India’s greatest success story? \nAnd what of its rich and diverse cuisines. The exhilarating stories\, spices\, and history of food in India? \nA Night of Chefs & Ideas will bring together the kaleidoscopic story of food in India – with French accents. \nChefs. Experts. Policy makers. Historians. Economists. And practitioners. Come together for a night of creative thinking. \nExciting. Riveting. Thought-provoking..\nJoin us … \n\nFor more debate. More diversity. More proximity.\nMore solutions. More bridges. More stories.\nAnd a delicious\, specially curated\, dinner by a French chef from the Indian countryside.\n\nProgramme:\n6 pm – 6.30 pm: Welcome drinks and Night of Ideas Mela \n6.30 pm – 6.35 pm: Welcome Address by French Ambassador H.E. DESCRIPTION:As part of the New Delhi World Book Fair\, the Embassy of France in India and French Institute in India in collaboration with Alliance Française de Delhi invite you for the screening of French film – Happening followed by Q&A session with the Nobel laureate Annie Ernaux. \nSynopsis: France\, 1963. Anne is a bright young student with a promising future ahead of her. But when she falls pregnant\, she sees the opportunity to finish her studies and escape the constraints of her social background disappearing. SUMMARY:French Live
DESCRIPTION:Debashish PaulDebashish is a 1994-born sculptor and performance artist who explores queer identity and the societal norms surrounding it. He studied at the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship and later pursued a master’s degree from Banaras Hindu University. He uses sculptural dresses to reveal his emotions and desires. His work has been recognized in several exhibitions and has won various awards\, including the Allegro Main Prize and lnlaks Fine Art Award. His work is showcased as part of the Artist-in-Residence program at the India Art Fair 2023. \nME WITH MY PETPerformance“Metaphorically a pet or imaginary friend is my memory whom I am always carrying with me. In my lonely fantastic world\, I am continually having conversations with them. In a way\, pets are my other internal self. This idea arises from the distance that is created in personal relationships. In this work\, I want to understand how someone’s memories internally create a form and love it like a pet\, and a new story of life is created. \nIn this project\, the sculptural dresses as well as freestanding sculptures represent my internal body and various imagined non-human forms. The dresses were made in Varanasi and the first durational live performance was executed in Khanta village in Sonbhadra district\, and Jargo village near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh\, India.” \nFIRE IN THE BELLYLaunch of the PosterzineFeaturing 8 trailblazing women artists and creative powerhouses – Anikesa Dhing\, Aqui Thami\, Aravani Art Project\, Dhruvi Acharya\, Meena Kandasamy\, Rithika Pandey\, Shilpa Gupta\, and Zeenat Kulavoor – this posterzine is a call to action\, a celebration of female strength\, and an invitation to join the movement for equality. \nEach poster is a unique expression of the artist’s vision\, a tearable and pastable piece of art that can be used in small  acts of celebration and protest. From enormous issues of sexuality\, class\, caste and ecology to innermost pains and pleasures\, these I posters explore the complexities of the world\, and invite you to engage in the power of DIY and surprise yourself with your own inner fire. \nFRANCE EU GENDER CHAMPIONThe choice of such programming is also deeply linked to our vision of art as an inclusive creative practice which should provide everyone with the opportunity to express themselves on subjects such as gender\, empowerment\, and many others. \nThe Embassy of France in India and the French Institute in India\, along with the network of Alliances Françaises in India\, are committed to promoting equality and inclusivity through all their programs. 2023 marks the year of “France EU Gender Champion” and we will be organizing\, along with our partners\, a series of events promoting leading voices in the field of gender equality. SUMMARY:Webinar: The digital\, a vector of equality?
DESCRIPTION:The French digital designer Isabelle Arvers and the Indian artist Gayatri Kodikal in conversation on the theme – The digital\, a vector of equality? \nMachines and software\, in their design and usage\, reflect the inequalities that run through the societies that develop them. Sometimes guaranteeing renewed access to education and culture\, these technologies can also consolidate power relationships and raise several questions. Does digital technology worsen inequality of opportunity? What is the relationship between art and digital technology? Is the design of video games neutral and does it promote inclusion? In what ways can video games be seen as a new language and medium for artists? How can we ensure that the information available on the Internet\, the digital world as a whole\, allows for a fair representation of the existing cultural diversity and does not leave out certain minorities? \nWatch the sessionAbout the panelists \nIsabelle Arvers\nIsabelle Arvers\, PHD Candidate\, LARSyS\, Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI)\, FBAUL\, is a French artist and curator whose research focuses on the interaction between art and video games. For the past twenty years\, she has been investigating the artistic\, ethical\, and critical implications of digital gaming. \nHer work explores the creative potential of hacking video games through machinima. As a curator\, she focuses on video games as a new language for artists. She curated several shows and festivals around the world\, including Jibambe na Tec (Nairobi\, AF\, 2020)\, Tecnofeminismo (Bogota\, AF\, 2019)\, Art Games World Tour exhibit (Buenos Aires\, 2019)\, Interspecies Imaginaries (Overkill\, 2019)\, Machinima in Mash Up (Vancouver Art Gallery\, 2016)\, UCLA Gamelab Festival (Hammer Museum\, Los Angeles 2015\, 2017)\, Evolution of Gaming (Vancouver\, 2014)\, Game Heroes (Alcazar\, Marseille\, 2011)\, Playing Real (Gamerz\, 2007)\, Mind Control (Banana RAM Ancona\, Italy\, 2004)\, Node Runner (Paris\, 2004) Playtime (Villette Numérique\, 2002)  . \nFrom 2013 to 2016\, she worked on art and research projects and curated and produced six antiAtlas of Borders exhibitions around the mutations of the borders in the 21st century\, including The Art of Bordering at MAXXI in Roma and Coding and decoding borders in Brussels. She was also in charge of the End of the Map exhibition in the fall 2015 in Paris about alternative\, subversive and emotional cartography. \nAs a tribute to Nathalie Magnan\, her association Kareron produced in 2018 TRANS//BORDER\, Nathalie Magnan’s teachings\, a series of events about ecosexuality\, cyber feminism\, alternative media and situated knowledge. Kareron is actually producing UKI a Sci-fi Alt reality cinema by Shu Lea Cheang. \nIn 2019\, she embarked on an Art and Games World Tour in non western countries to promote the notion of diversity of gender\, sexuality and geographic origin\, focusing on queer\, feminist\, and decolonial practices. In 2020\, Arvers started a PHD on Art & Games decolonization. \nGayatri Kodikal\nGayatri Kodikal is an artist and writer\, who has worked with moving image\, sound and esoteric game worlds. She indulges in the speculative\, the historical\, science fiction and feminist narratives. \nPsychology\, cinema\, game design and oral storytelling informs her research and inquiry that lead her to play with concepts of time\, memory\, decay\, traces and narrative forms. Game and ludic forms become a fertile space for conceptual art and thought. She writes to manifest and develop an ideology from a relationship with the ecological subject and the people\, plants and beings who inhabit it in the age of climate change and the modulating body in migrational movement. The work has often combined specific historical instances with her interests in ghost stories\, animism\, magic and spatial memories. The investigative quality of such instances\, missing information and wrong trails inspire fictional reconstructions and speculative situations that appear in most of the works. She is interested in how technology performs the haunting dance of absence and presence\, investigating the material and immaterial as collage\, assemblage\, where in she tries to maintain the illusive physicality of the digital and instability of the analogue. She also explores film material as a historical artifact\, by observing decay and preservation as documentation. \nThe archive is a key site of inquiry\, where she unfolds a counter-archive and decolonised method and form. Her anarchival practices bring a heterogeneity and different media and materials into archives along with performance tactics that emerge from collaborative processes. \nShe has taught at The National Institute of Design\, Srishti School of Art\, Design and Technology\, and KRV Institute of Architecture.Currently her research explores haunting\, encounter\, disappearance and camouflage as a speculative strategy for the modulating body. Her Masters thesis investigated the concept of ‘shapeshifting’ as a narrative trope that could lend itself to contemporary political strategies of embodiment; liminality and being in the void\, the anarchitectural practice of trans* bodies\, the fluidity and camouflage of protest spaces and the protester\, the abjection of statelessness\, the metaphor of the mangrove game world. She was guided by the mentorship of Hypatia Vourloumis and Anselm Franke at the Dutch Art Institute Roaming Academy\, The Netherlands.
