NDWBF 2023 is scheduled from 25 February to 5 March 2023 in newly constructed Halls 2-5 GF at the centrally located Pragati Maidan\, New Delhi. The Fair is organized by National Book Trust\, India\, an autonomous organization of the Government of India under the Ministry of Education in collaboration with India Trade Promotion Organization. Today\, Indian publishing stands poised at significant crossroads towards the path of growth. NDWBF offers the exhibitors a unique opportunity for business with this growing book industry. It is also an ideal venue for promoting titles\, co-publication arrangements and trade. Besides the many literary and publishing conferences and programmes that are organized during the Fair\, it also opens up a gateway to the publishing and intellectual world of South Asia. The Fair attracts participation from major publishing houses across the globe. In 2021\, the Fair was organized virtually and the platform had more than 2.8 million hits\, visitors from 70 countries across the world\, 150 Indian Exhibitors and about 15 Foreign Exhibitors.

DESCRIPTION:Debashish PaulDebashish is a 1994-born sculptor and performance artist who explores queer identity and the societal norms surrounding it. He studied at the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship and later pursued a master’s degree from Banaras Hindu University. He uses sculptural dresses to reveal his emotions and desires. His work has been recognized in several exhibitions and has won various awards\, including the Allegro Main Prize and lnlaks Fine Art Award. His work is showcased as part of the Artist-in-Residence program at the India Art Fair 2023. \nME WITH MY PETPerformance“Metaphorically a pet or imaginary friend is my memory whom I am always carrying with me. In my lonely fantastic world\, I am continually having conversations with them. In a way\, pets are my other internal self. This idea arises from the distance that is created in personal relationships. In this work\, I want to understand how someone’s memories internally create a form and love it like a pet\, and a new story of life is created. \nIn this project\, the sculptural dresses as well as freestanding sculptures represent my internal body and various imagined non-human forms. She was also in charge of the End of the Map exhibition in the fall 2015 in Paris about alternative\, subversive and emotional cartography. \nAs a tribute to Nathalie Magnan\, her association Kareron produced in 2018 TRANS//BORDER\, Nathalie Magnan’s teachings\, a series of events about ecosexuality\, cyber feminism\, alternative media and situated knowledge. Kareron is actually producing UKI a Sci-fi Alt reality cinema by Shu Lea Cheang. \nIn 2019\, she embarked on an Art and Games World Tour in non western countries to promote the notion of diversity of gender\, sexuality and geographic origin\, focusing on queer\, feminist\, and decolonial practices. In 2020\, Arvers started a PHD on Art & Games decolonization. \nGayatri Kodikal\nGayatri Kodikal is an artist and writer\, who has worked with moving image\, sound and esoteric game worlds. She indulges in the speculative\, the historical\, science fiction and feminist narratives. \nPsychology\, cinema\, game design and oral storytelling informs her research and inquiry that lead her to play with concepts of time\, memory\, decay\, traces and narrative forms. Game and ludic forms become a fertile space for conceptual art and thought. She writes to manifest and develop an ideology from a relationship with the ecological subject and the people\, plants and beings who inhabit it in the age of climate change and the modulating body in migrational movement. The work has often combined specific historical instances with her interests in ghost stories\, animism\, magic and spatial memories. The investigative quality of such instances\, missing information and wrong trails inspire fictional reconstructions and speculative situations that appear in most of the works. She is interested in how technology performs the haunting dance of absence and presence\, investigating the material and immaterial as collage\, assemblage\, where in she tries to maintain the illusive physicality of the digital and instability of the analogue. She also explores film material as a historical artifact\, by observing decay and preservation as documentation. \nThe archive is a key site of inquiry\, where she unfolds a counter-archive and decolonised method and form. Her anarchival practices bring a heterogeneity and different media and materials into archives along with performance tactics that emerge from collaborative processes. \nShe has taught at The National Institute of Design\, Srishti School of Art\, Design and Technology\, and KRV Institute of Architecture.Currently her research explores haunting\, encounter\, disappearance and camouflage as a speculative strategy for the modulating body. Her Masters thesis investigated the concept of ‘shapeshifting’ as a narrative trope that could lend itself to contemporary political strategies of embodiment; liminality and being in the void\, the anarchitectural practice of trans* bodies\, the fluidity and camouflage of protest spaces and the protester\, the abjection of statelessness\, the metaphor of the mangrove game world. She was guided by the mentorship of Hypatia Vourloumis and Anselm Franke at the Dutch Art Institute Roaming Academy\, The Netherlands.

SUMMARY:Workshop for the Franco-Indian Campus for Health
DESCRIPTION:France is committed to establishing a Franco-Indian Campus centred around Health in the Indo-Pacific region. It is envisioned as a joint venture between the two nations to institute and promote excellence in education and research through teaching\, training and research programmes delivered jointly by leading French and Indian Higher Education and Research Institutions. Considering the existing Franco-Indian scientific collaborations\, the priority topics identified during bilateral dialogues\, and the global challenges in health manifested by the pandemic\, the focus of the proposed Franco-Indian Campus would be the health sector. The fields of teaching and research will span pure and applied sciences\, social and human sciences\, life sciences and technology\, applied to One Health. \nA Call to Gather Leading French and Indian Higher Education and Research Institutions \nBolstered by a long-standing and fruitful cooperation in education and research between India and France\, the French Ministries of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and of Higher Education\, Research and Innovation (MESRI) have jointly launched this initiative\, to which € 900\,000 (7.4 Crore INR) of public funding has been allocated. To establish a fair and transparent process for the selection of partners\, be it standalone institutions or consortia\, a Call for Projects\, open to French Higher Education and Research Institutions\, was launched on the 15th of April 2022. By the 1st of June 2022\, the most promising project proposals were shortlisted by a jury from the two Ministries. These included both projects with Indian partners placed and those with Indian partners not yet identified. \nAbout the Workshop: \nThe representatives of the shortlisted projects\, put forth by 17 French Public Universities\, have been invited to India for a Franco-Indian Higher Education and Research Workshop under the framework of the Franco-Indian Campus for Health initiative to be held from 27th – 28th June 2022 at The Claridges hotel. It will be attended by 22 French and 41 Indian Higher Education and Research Institutions\, French and Indian research agencies\, industry and government bodies concerned with this initiative. This workshop will serve as the preliminary interface for the various stakeholders of this initiative to meet\, further develop their respective projects and explore new synergies both within and beyond the realm of this initiative. The University Grants Commission (UGC) will be represented at the workshop by its Chairman\, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar. The UGC’s new regulations for Academic Collaboration between Indian and Foreign Higher Educational Institutions to offer Twinning\, Joint Degree and Dual Degree Programmes) Regulations resonate with this initiative in both spirit and in their call for action. \nWay Forward:  \nBy 30th September 2022\, the final project proposals will be submitted. They will be subject to a rigorous selection process by a panel of experts\, at the end of which\, in October\, three projects will be selected and awarded funding. The implementation of the selected projects must begin by the 31st of December. \nAt this preliminary stage\, the Campus is proposed as a coalition of Franco-Indian academic partners in which each pair of institutions/consortia agrees on a syllabus for a programme awarding a dual degree (1 Indian degree + 1 French degree). The partners could be French and Indian institutions/consortia that already have an ongoing collaboration(s)\, but they could also be new stakeholders\, provided there is an evidence of reciprocal commitment. The long-term aim of the campus is to confer degrees at Bachelor’s\, Master’s and Doctoral levels and facilitate high-end research and innovation projects. Ultimately\, this joint undertaking would strengthen the academic and scientific cooperation between India and France by leveraging and emphasizing the respective strengths of the two nations in higher education and research for the strategic sector of Health.

A specialist in feminine authors and stateswomen of the Renaissance\, she is more broadly interested in the relations between women and power over the long term\, their historiographical treatment and their transmission in the collective memory (La France\, les femmes et le pouvoir\, 2006\, 2008\, 2016\, 2020\, the latest to be published). She contributes to the renewal of studies on the Querelle des femmes and also explores its consequences on the French language. www.eliane-viennot.fr \nCatherine Leclerc is an Associate Professor in the Department of French-language literature\, Translation\, and Creative writing at McGill University\, where she teaches the literature of linguistic minorities in Canada\, as well as sociolinguistics and translation. After studying History at St Stephen’s College\, Delhi\, and the Centre for Historical Studies\, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)\, New Delhi\, he moved to École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales\, Paris\, for his doctoral work. Since the early eighties\, he has written extensively for Le Monde\, Le Monde Diplomatique\, Libération\, the Guardian and several other international newspapers. Over the last two decades\, he has written and directed many acclaimed films among which Jaya Ganga and One Dollar Curry. Before stepping into the world of cinema\, Vijay Singh had published several books that had won wide critical acclaim: Jaya Ganga\, In Search of the River Goddess\, Whirlpool of Shadows\, The River Godess\, L’Inde\, La Nuit Poignardée\, etc. He is now working on his next feature\, The Opium Symphony\, which is adapted from his novel Whirlpool of Shadows.

DESCRIPTION:The French Institute in India in collaboration with the publishing house Comix India is launching the English translation of Alcazar\, an award-winning French graphic novel by Simon Lamouret. \nThe Alcazar follows the lives of migrant construction workers building a residential complex in Bangalore. \nSimon will be in conversation with Bharath Murthy\, his Indian publisher and Mansi. The session will be moderated by Angshuman Chakraborty\, a comics collector. \nThis publication has been supported by the PAP Tagore programme \nFeb 20\, 2022 | 7 pm IST \nLive on YoutubeSimon Lamouret\nSimon Lamouret is a graphic novelist and illustrator based out of Toulouse\, France. \nA few years after graduating from Les Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg\, he decided to move to Bangalore for a year. His initial plan of spending a year abroad turned into him spending several years in India: drawing and observing\, first in a spirit of novelty\, later in a more focused manner. \nThis journey is witnessed through his two graphic novels: Bangalore (2017) and L’Alcazar (2020) which he published in France. While the first was an autobiographical travelogue about the peculiarities one finds on the streets of a major Indian city\, the second attempted to depict the daily life of construction workers based on a thorough observation of a construction site near his house. \nMansi Kashatria\nMansi Kashatria is currently a PhD researcher in Cultural Studies based out of Norrköping\, Sweden. \nHaving a background in Migration Studies\, Rural Livelihoods\, and Geography\, she finds herself on the margins of these disciplines but with one foot always out in the world of contemporary art. Growing up under the post-colonial thought can be blamed for her critical and disjointed relationship with the discursive economy of contemporary art and its institutions. Her latest and ongoing research\, therefore\, hopes to develop a critical inquiry into how certain artistic practices can act as a site of resistance\, radicality\, and emancipation. \nThe research experience with Alcazar was pivotal for Mansi in not only establishing a collaboration with a dear friend who is a skilled graphic novelist but also in the way the entire research practice aimed for an accessible\, inclusive artwork that keeps the authorship of the narration with those whose lives we become a part of in the novel. \nBharath Murthy\nHe is a cartoonist\, filmmaker and editor/publisher. He edits and publishes Vérité\, a comics magazine for adults\, under the Comix India label. \nAngshuman Chakraborty\nAngshuman lives and works in New Delhi. An avid fan of the comics medium\, he started the YouTube channel “For the Love of Comics” in 2018.
