This rigorous search culminated in the selection of six exceptional Indian dancers\, each chosen for their unique skills and extraordinary talent. By implementing such projects\, the French Institute is looking at creating a real creative dialogue between French and Indian professionals. Long-term collaborations like this one are perfect platforms for people to learn about each other. \nThis year\, Compagnie Käfig is set to present one of their acclaimed productions\, Cartes Blanches\, featuring the selected Indian dancers from the public auditions. The dancers have been rehearsing under the expert guidance of Mourad Merzouki and his team to bring this French production to life. The premiere is scheduled for September 7th\, 2024\, and promises to be a mesmerizing showcase with a never-seen cross-cultural approach. The show is to tour later on\, during the 2nd semester of 2024\, across the country\, in different cities\, more information to come. \nAbout Cartes Blanches \n\n	\n \n	\n\n\nCartes Blanches was created initially in 2016 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Compagnie Käfig and the production served as a heartfelt tribute to the dancers who have significantly contributed to the company’s illustrious history. Mourad Merzouki has crafted this performance to reflect on his journey and honor those who have shared it with him. Having this piece performed by Indian dancers for the first time definitely means opening a new chapter and sharing the very DNA of the company with the Indian audience. The show is set in a cozy living room with period furniture and the artists join one another on stage to relate an extraordinary adventure\, through the memory of bodies and in total simplicity. \nAbout Mourad Merzouki & Compagnie Käfig\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\nA major figure on the hip-hop scene since the early 1990s\, Compagnie Käfig’s Artistic Director Mourad Merzouki works at the crossroads of many different disciplines: he adds circus\, martial arts\, fine arts\, video and live music to his exploration of hip-hop dance. Without losing sight of the roots of hip-hop movement\, of its social and geographical origins\, this multidisciplinary approach opens new horizons and reveals original outlooks. \nSince 1996\, 31 creations have been performed in 700 cities and 65 countries. Compagnie Käfig has given more than 4\,000 performances to over 2 million spectators. Each year the company delivers a hundred or so performances around the world pushing the boundaries of dance. \nAbout Prakriti Foundation\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\nPrakriti Foundation was founded in Chennai in 1998 to host events enquiring into cultural heritage and inheritance in order to change and enlarge the cultural scene of Chennai. Since its creation\, Prakriti has been a free space where scholars\, researchers\, artists\, critics\, poets and filmmakers could present their work to those who engage with it on serious terms. The Foundation organizes four festivals and events across various performing and non-performing art forms\, among which are lecture demonstrations\, poetry readings\, film screenings\, and intimate performances. \nThe French Institute in India is one of the major supporters of the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards (PECDA)\, a national-level biennial award for contemporary dance (one-of-a-kind in South Asia). PECDA is a platform for Indian contemporary dance forms\, exposing artists to a wider audience and network. \nRecently\, with Villa Swagatam\, a network of artistic residencies initiated by IFI\, Prakriti Foundation welcomes French practitioners to experience this vivid scene\, and discover and engage with new\, emerging forms of expression. \nAbout the Venue: PCPA\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\nPrestige Centre for Performing Arts\, opened in early 2023\, stands as a premier institution dedicated to fostering creativity and excellence in the arts. Offering state-of-the-art facilities\, it provides a dynamic platform for artists and audiences to engage in diverse cultural expressions. The centre serves a commitment to nurturing talent and promoting artistic innovation.

This production marks another significant step in the company’s ongoing exploration of cross-disciplinary art\, engaging audiences of all ages and cultures. Beyond words\, it opens up a space for imagination and poetry. Using just paper\, charcoal\, and a guitar\, the artists bring the creative process to life\, immersing viewers in the intimate and often solitary act of creation. \nPremiered in 2023\, this latest work by the company has been recently showcased at prestigious venues\, including the Barbican Centre in London\, the Venice Biennale\, and Théâtre de la Ville de Paris\, among others. The two artists behind STEREOPTIK\, Romain Bermond and Jean-Baptiste Maillet\, push their artistic boundaries with this production\, combining animation techniques like hand-drawn cartoons\, stop-motion\, painting\, object theatre\, and music. As both a film and a live creation\, the show reveals the intricacies of the company’s creative process\, offering audiences a rare glimpse into the art of making. \nAbout Stereoptik\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\nFormed in 2008 during the creation of the show of the same name\, Stereoptik is a duo composed of Romain Bermond and Jean-Baptiste Maillet\, both visual artists and musicians. Based on a score they write and develop together\, each of their shows is created in front of the audience. Painting\, drawing\, shadow\, object and puppet theatre\, silent film\, live music\, and animation are all areas in which Stereoptik blurs the boundaries. The many arts brought onto the stage are guided by one principle: showing the audience the technical process that leads to the development of characters\, scenes\, and a story. The audience is free to be carried away by the projected images and story or to focus on the details—how the drawing moves on the screen\, how the ink gives birth to a silhouette on a transparent background\, and which instrument is used to bring it to life. Visual\, musical\, and devoid of text\, Stereoptik’s creations arouse curiosity and astonishment in audiences of all ages and cultures. \nAlliance Française TourSeason 2024-25\nAlliances Françaises proudly promote French-Indian cultural ties with iconic productions like “Antichambre” and others. This cultural season will feature diverse performances\, including dance\, theatre\, and music. It also fosters relationships and collaborations between French and Indian arts professionals through workshops. \n© Credits & mentions\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\nConception and interpretation: Romain Bermond\, Jean-Baptiste Maillet.\nA STEREOPTIK production\, production exécutive et diffusion : Les 2 Bureaux.\nCo-production: Théâtre de la Ville – Paris\, Le Trident – Scène nationale de Cherbourg-en-Cotentin\, l’Hectare – Territoires vendômois – Centre national de la Marionnette\, Le Sablier – Centre national de la Marionnette – Ifs\, Le Parvis – Scène Nationale Tarbes Pyrénées\, Lux – Scène nationale de Valence\, Folimage-Valence.\nIn partnership with: L’Echalier – Agence rurale de développement culturel – Couëtron-au-Perche\, Théâtre des 2 Rives – Charenton-le-Pont.\nSupport for project setup (création 2023): Hélène Icart. \nSTEREOPTIK is supported by the French Ministry of Culture and the Centre-Val de Loire Region as well as being an associate artist at the Théâtre de la Ville de Paris and the Hectare\, Territoires Vendômois\, Centre National de la Marionnette.

With sequences lasting approximately 25 seconds\, Jumpstyle embodies a release of energy\, frustration\, and defiance\, creating a powerful visual and emotional experience. Often beginning as a private practice filmed in bedrooms and shared online\, Jumpstyle grows into a communal art form through virtual battles\, real-world meetups\, and collective performances in public spaces. \nTo Da Bone not only brings these electrifying styles to the stage but also reflects on the role of social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook in mobilizing crowds and creating opposition movements. This unique work bridges the virtual and physical\, capturing the journey of dance from individual expression to a collective act of rebellion. \nChoreographed by (La)HORDE\, known for their innovative and bold explorations of contemporary dance\, To Da Bone pushes the boundaries of performance art by fusing urban culture with high-energy choreography. The collaboration with the Ballet National de Marseille enhances this dynamic production\, delivering an electrifying and thought-provoking experience. \nPrepare to be captivated by this intense\, rhythmic\, and deeply evocative performance as it embarks on its India tour. Witness the energy\, passion\, and artistry of youth rebellion like never before. \nAbout (LA)HORDE\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\n(LA)HORDE is a collective that was founded in 2013 by the three artists Marine Brutti\, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel. Together they question codes of various artistic disciplines\, especially contemporary live art and performing arts. At the head of the Ballet National de Marseille since September 2019\, they have created choreographic works\, films\, video installations and performances\, that always evolve around the body in movement. \nFrom the interaction and the juxtaposition of these different media\, they develop scenarios and actions that take up\nradically contemporary themes and questions. (LA)HORDE collaborates with communities of individuals on the margins of the mainstream\, and part of their art is also the practice of practical solidarity. They have worked with groups of seventy-year-olds\, blind performers\, smokers\, juveniles… Contrary to any form of hierarchy and cultural appropriation\, they work at eye level with the performers.\nAt the centre of their work is the body. (LA)HORDE create works from their encounters with various online communities and thus also investigates what has happened to dance since the advent of the Internet. This is a theme that (LA)HORDE is very passionate about and so they define their work as work on “post-Internet dance». \nAbout Ballet National de Marseilles\n\n	\n \n	\n\n\nThe Ballet National de Marseille is a creation of our times\, a place of emergence of an emergence which\, since its inception\, has been charged with a very special aura. The fruit of an exception\, this structure emancipates itself from the French centrality. Roland Petit inaugurates this story\, whose various adventures and successes are a history of dance. The Ballet’s intrinsic vivacity in the direction of (LA)HORDE a regenerative form that once again imprints the identity of an ecstatic creative community. In 1972\, choreographer Roland Petit created Les Ballets de Marseille.\nHaving lost its plural form\, the Ballet National de Marseille became a Centre Chorégraphique National in 1984. The creation and dissemination of Ballet and guest artists. Firmly rooted in curiosity and openness to the world\, the BNM is also a landmark of Marseille’s architectural heritage. \nThe CCN Ballet National de Marseille – direction (LA)HORDE is supported by the DRAC Paca\, the French Ministry of Culture\, the City of Marseille and the BNP-Paribas Foundation.

They facilitated the sharing of stories\, knowledge and traditions across borders. Similarly\, Queer Caravan aims to traverse physical and metaphorical landscapes to foster cross-border connections and promote a sense of community among LGBTQIA+ writers and storytellers from underrepresented communities in India\, France and Germany. \nThe Queer Caravan is a collaborative residency program led by the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan\, the French Institute in India\, and The Queer Muslim Project\, with support from the German-French Cultural Fund. This unique initiative brings together queer storytellers and artists from France\, Germany\, and India to amplify underrepresented LGBTQIA+ voices and foster cross-cultural dialogue. \nIt embodies a multifaceted approach to achieving these goals: it seeks to introduce emerging LGBTQIA+ writers from diverse marginalized communities to new and distinct literary-cultural landscapes while facilitating meaningful interactions between these writers and local communities. The program also supports the creation and dissemination of alternative narratives about what it means to be queer and from marginalized communities. \nARTISTSKadir Özdemir\, Germany \nKadir Özdemir is an author\, theatre maker\, and political educator. This “tropical soul” isn’t just a sound—it’s a celebration of life’s meaningful moments\, deeply rooted in his heritage and a loving tribute to his family origins in the Caribbean\, especially poignant after the passing of his mother. \nThat Caribbean spirit\, which has brought him comfort\, is now something he proudly carries forward. Since his first album Awa—which\, as he once joyfully explained\, means “no” in Creole\, “a no that feels good\, that frees you from what no longer serves you”—David has never stopped singing about the chain of islands scattered between the Americas\, while forging his own path thousands of kilometers away. Nearly 15 years later\, his bright smile is still his compass\, like a sun-star hanging from the ceiling of his thoughts and dreams. And you can hear it—shining through all 13 joy-infused tracks of Soul Tropical. \nA Family Affair—from Sheffield to Los Angeles\, via Marseille and Paris\nThis tropical soul is also a family affair\, in the purest sense of soul and funk—à la Sly Stone. It’s not just about blood ties\, but about chosen family: the musicians\, the label\, the collaborators who surround him with warmth and creativity. \nIt all came together last spring\, when David took a tip from fellow artist Guts and travelled to Sheffield to work with British producer Tom Excell. “Guts and I are very close\,” David shares\, “so when he offered to be my distant creative partner and third eye on the project\, I felt honored—like he was throwing a meteor shower onto this album.” In Sheffield\, they crafted the Bow Down EP and laid the groundwork for more tracks. \nBack in Marseille\, David took a scalpel to those initial drafts and then headed to Paris\, where he brought in his longtime collaborators from the Nocturne project: percussionist Roger Raspail\, genre-blending cellist Vincent Segal\, and kora master Ballaké Sissoko. At Studio One Two Pass It in Bagnolet\, he also reunited with pianist Mario Canonge\, singer Flavia Coelho\, and Caribbean backing vocalists Béatrice Civaton and Nathalie Jeanlys. \nAnd then came L.A.\, where he linked up with American producer Captain Planet—a meeting born at a Guts concert. That trip to Captain Planet’s studio? “A childhood dream\,” David says\, eyes wide like a kid catching falling stars. \nAn Album to Make Tomorrow Dance\nInside Captain Planet’s L.A. studio\, the two mixed all 13 tracks—rich with Afro-Caribbean influence and a global beat. This album wasn’t thrown together randomly: you don’t just happen to have Mario Canonge from Martinique\, Roger Raspail from Guadeloupe\, Anthony Joseph from Trinidad\, Cuban rapper La Reyna\, and Brazilian-French singer Flavia Coelho all on one record. That’s family. That’s shared soul. \nDavid understands the strength of this Caribbean bond—a heartbeat pulsing with rhythms and melodies inherited from Africa\, but open to the world. This tropical soul\, much like the region’s linguistic mix and cultural fusion\, isn’t built on rigid systems but on vibrant\, interconnected flows. Just like the Jamaican sound-system gave rise to ragga\, hip-hop\, and electronic music—this soul is layered\, alive\, and evolving. \n“These thirteen tracks reflect my openness\,” David says\, thanking Franck Descollonges of Heavenly Sweetness\, who gave him the freedom to shape this genre-crossing\, city-hopping journey. “That team spirit\, that creative fire—it’s the same vibe that gave birth to Motown and Stax. That’s not nothing.” \nAnd a fun fact? “Captain Planet is the only producer I know who works standing up. That means he dances for ten hours a day.” A quirky detail\, sure—but for David\, it says everything. This is an album built for movement\, for joy\, for soul-shaking even on grey days.

DESCRIPTION:Slide 1PerformanceELEVATIONTwo aerial creations come together\, speaking a shared language of flight and balance while exploring the art of suspension and the human desire to rise.Jan 17 - Feb 1\, 2026Find your ShowSneak Peek \n\n \n \n \n ELEVATION brings together two aerial works that orbit the same obsession: gravity\, balance\, and the human impulse to rise above limits. Rooted in movement yet reaching for stillness\, the double bill unfolds as a continuous arc — from fall to flight\, tension to release\, grounding to transcendence. \nThe evening opens with Approach 17. Opening\, where an ordinary staircase becomes a site of extraordinary possibility. Here\, the performer enters into a precise conversation with physical laws. Each ascent\, slip\, and rebound is calibrated to a concealed trampoline\, revealing moments of suspension so brief they feel eternal — that fragile pause where the body hovers between mastery and surrender\, before gravity claims its due. \nEmerging from a cross-cultural encounter with the Indian discipline of Mallakhamb\, Dialogue au mât deepens this exploration. Performed around a vertical pole\, the piece blends the fluid grace of dance with the raw force of acrobatics. It charts an intimate journey — one shaped by discipline\, devotion\, and transformation — seeking balance between structure and freedom\, strength and spirit. \nBengaluruAhmedabadNew DelhiBengaluru\n17\, 18 Jan 2026\nTime: 4:45 pm (Both days) | As part of BLR Hubba Festival\nVenue: Freedom Park\, Amphitheatre\nSeshadri Rd\, Gandhi Nagar\, Bengaluru\, Karnataka 560009 \nEntry & Registration: \n\nFree Entry. SUMMARY:The Frugal Innovation Forum
DESCRIPTION:The Frugal Innovation ForumA tale of two countries. In France\, the ecological consequences of overconsumption and resource depletion have led to the creation of a vibrant “low-tech” ecosystem. These movements promote frugal production methods\, often drawing on older solutions to address modern challenges. Some even advocate “degrowth” to curb the resource-intensive lifestyles of 21st-century France. \nIn India\, frugality is not as much of an option as a necessity. Confronted with deep inequalities and limited access to resources\, Indians must continually maximize what is available : whether launching startups\, running rural schools\, or executing space missions on extremely tight budgets. This Indian frugality also thrives in high-technology sectors\, exemplified by the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 probe at the Moon’s south pole—achieved with a remarkably modest €68.7 million budget. \nAs both nations face mounting social\, environmental\, and economic pressures — alongside the rapid rise of AI — how can human-centered frugal innovation help address these crises? And how might France and India collaborate here more effectively? \nThese questions lie at the heart of the The Frugal Innovation Forum\, co-curated with Mr. Navi Radjou. This event shall be held on 25 April 2026 at Science Gallery Bengaluru\, preceded by a workshop on frugal AI on 24 April. \nProgram schedule & agenda Science GalleryVenue partnerScience Gallery Bengaluru is a public institution that connects scientific research with art\, design\, and society through interdisciplinary exhibitions and programmes. Established in 2020 as part of the Global Science Gallery Network\, it is supported by the Government of Karnataka and leading academic partners including the Indian Institute of Science and the National Centre for Biological Sciences. The gallery engages young adults through interactive exhibitions\, workshops\, talks\, and public labs. With a focus on critical inquiry\, it serves as a platform for dialogue on science\, technology\, and contemporary social challenges in India and beyond. \nNavi RadjouNavi Radjou is an innovation strategist\, keynote speaker\, and co-author of the bestselling book Jugaad Innovation. Her music blends indie-pop\, folk influences\, and deeply personal storytelling to create performances that feel intimate\, honest\, and emotionally resonant. \nRather than relying on spectacle\, Kelly ou moi builds a direct and sincere connection with her audience. Her songs explore relationships\, memory\, vulnerability\, and the emotions that shape everyday life. \nAs part of the Month of Music\, Kelly ou moi offers a quieter but equally powerful experience\, reminding us that music can be both deeply personal and profoundly shared. \nIndia Tour AhmedabadPuducherryAhmedabad\n19 June 2026\nTime: 7 PM\nVenue: Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad \nEntry & Registration: \n\nFree Entry.
