The French Institute in India (Institut français en Inde – IFI), the Culture and Cooperation Service of the Embassy of France in India, is committed to fostering meaningful and lasting exchanges between France and India.
As the cultural, educational, and scientific arm of the French diplomatic mission, IFI develops and supports a wide range of bilateral collaborations. These include academic and scientific partnerships between universities and research institutions, the promotion of student mobility, and the teaching and learning of the French language in India. IFI also connects artists, researchers, civil society organisations, entrepreneurs, film professionals, publishers, and cultural institutions across disciplines.
IFI actively supports cooperation in research and innovation, vocational education and training, capacity building, and civil society engagement. A central pillar of its work is the development of artistic and cultural partnerships, spanning all arts, literature, cinema, fashion, design, and creative industries. Through festivals, forums, conferences, and public debates, IFI brings together leading thinkers and creative voices from both countries.
Through Campus France India, IFI provides dedicated guidance to Indian students wishing to pursue higher education in France. Operating in close coordination with a network of 15 Alliance Française centres across India, Campus France India offers free and personalised counselling, support with admission procedures, visa guidance, and direct engagement with French higher education institutions. Initiatives such as the Choose France Tour, biannual education fairs, and the France Alumni India platform strengthen long-term academic and professional ties between the two countries.
France and India are global leaders in innovation, education, and creativity. France is among Europe’s foremost innovation hubs, while India stands as one of the world’s fastest-growing knowledge economies. IFI acts as a bridge between these two ecosystems—connecting people, ideas, and institutions to encourage collaboration and build a shared future.
