As part of the Month of La Francophonie, the Grande Dictée 2026 unfolded as a nationwide celebration of the French language, bringing together learners, educators, and institutions across India.
Under the theme “Travel & Escape”, this edition drew inspiration from two major literary landmarks:
- The Little Prince — marking 80 years since publication
- André Malraux — commemorating 50 years since his passing
More than a dictation, this initiative created a shared moment of attention, imagination, and cultural connection across classrooms and campuses.

Schools, universities and partner institutions
The Grande Dictée 2026 was deployed at a national scale, bringing together over 5,000 participants across 100+ institutions, including schools, universities, and higher education centres.
With more than 120 dictations conducted across 14 states, the initiative created a coordinated learning moment across diverse educational environments.
To support seamless participation, institutions were provided with a ready-to-use pedagogical kit, enabling autonomous implementation while ensuring consistency in experience.

Open to all French language enthusiasts in India
Through the network of Alliances Françaises, the Grande Dictée extended beyond classrooms into public and community spaces, fostering a more open and inclusive engagement with the French language.

Across India, these gatherings contributed to the wider impact of the initiative, reinforcing the idea that language learning thrives in collective and social environments.
Participants were invited to engage with a literary text inspired by André Malraux, contributing to the national commemoration of his legacy.
On 17 March 2026, students from the four International Lycées Français in India participated in a synchronised, in-class dictation, creating a shared literary moment across campuses.
This coordinated initiative reflected the strength of a connected educational network, bringing together students through a single, simultaneous exercise.
Based on a text inspired by André Malraux, the session contributed to the broader national commemoration marking 50 years since his passing.

A National Mobilisation at Scale
This year’s edition witnessed a remarkable mobilisation across the country, bringing together learners and institutions at an unprecedented scale with more than 120 dictations conducted nationwide reaching :
- Over 10,000 people
- In more than 100 partner institutions across India
- Coverage across 14 states
- Participation from schools, universities, Alliances Françaises, and French international schools
- Extended participation from Bhutan
From primary classrooms to higher education campuses, the Grande Dictée brought together a diverse community of learners, reflecting the strength and reach of the French language ecosystem in India.
Beyond direct participation, the initiative generated a strong ripple effect within institutions through classroom discussions, peer engagement, and pedagogical reuse of content.
